Makerspace Items

Dear Families,
We are in the process of organizing and adding to our Makerspace in our Learning Commons. Our Makerspace is a place where students can gather to create with a focus on building, robotics, technology, coding, or a combination of these skills.  It allows students to invent, tinker, and discover using a variety of tools and materials while promoting critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and creativity.

In order to continue to enjoy this space, we would like to collect a few items that we are low on.  If you have any items that you can donate to the school, please send your child with them in a sealed Ziploc bag. We will be collecting from June 10 - 14.   Please note that all students at Kenneth D. Taylor School will use these materials and they will not be returned.

Calgary Humane Society- Don't Feed The Bears
Today we had a presentation on what REALLY happens when you feed wild animals! Students got to examine what happens when humans and wildlife collide. Respect, rights and responsibility are the 3 R’s of animal welfare. Using case studies and engaging activities students explored the needs of living things and learn about the importance of acting humanely towards all living creatures, both wild and domestic. Various issues were discussed with an emphasis on co-existing with wildlife in urban areas.
We also donated half of our mini-market funds to the Humane Society today! :)

Calgary Public Library

We had a presentation by the Calgary Public Library about their summer reading program.  There are great initiatives and prizes for reading (and doing a few other cool things in the library) so I hope each student participates.

Freeze Kids Comic
Students had the chance to learn how to draw some comic characters by learning how to use basic techniques such as eyes and mouth shapes.  The students loved doing some guided drawing together and learning how changing one basic part of a character's face can completely change it's mood. To learn more about these how to drawings, you can click on the Freeze Kids Comic website here: https://fkcb.ca/

Mini-Market
Thank you to all who participated in the mini-market and stayed for our Gr. 3 Celebration of Learning Assembly. In total we raised $300.00!!!!! That is incredible! We are going to give half of the money to the Calgary Humane Society and half to The Mustard Seed!
