We had a very busy week this week. We have dived head first
into learning. Here are some of the things that we have been up to:
Our
focus in literacy has been on increasing our stamina with our read to self and
sitting in EEKK(Elbow to elbow, knee to knee) position with our read to
someone/buddy reading. We have been practicing reading for longer periods of
time, working our way up to 20 minutes. Part of read to self is finding a good
fit book, finding a comfortable spot, and reading the whole time! We have
discussed that by doing these things we will become better readers.
We went to the library and got to take out our first books of the year. Books must be kept in the big zip lock bag and handled with clean hands! On Tuesdays we get to exchange our books.
In Social Studies, we have been working on finishing our self portraits as a way of representing our identity. Behind our portraits we drew “inchies” to represent different parts of our likes and interests and things that make us who we are.
Don't
forget that next week is our Parent Information Session. Our grade 1-4 students will have a Parent
Information Session in the evening on Thursday, September 20th. This is a
regular school day for grades 1-4. Parents/Guardians can attend one
session for each child sessions from either 5:45-6:15 pm or 6:30–7:00
pm (no need to sign up – just come). As information is geared to
parents and classroom space is limited, there will not be space for students to
attend. During this time, we will provide an overview of: the
grade program including what they will focus on in different subject areas; parent-teacher communication; homework expectations; and
answer parent questions. Please note, this is not a one on one conference
night. Grade 1-4 conferences will occur on October 25th and 26th –
more information to follow at a later date.
