St. Vladimir's Museum
We had our field trip to St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Museum. This was a great opportunity for students to see some Artifacts, learn about Ukrainian culture, visit the church and even learn a few steps of Ukrainian dance!
Learning the Language:
Tuk- yes
Nee- no
Pro'shoo- please
Dya' Koo Yoo- Thank you
Visiting the church and learning a little bit about the Ukrainian Culture.
Students had three stations on this field
trip. The first station was in the museum. Here we had a chance to
hear about Ukrainian culture and challenges. This included immigration and
hardships with food in the Ukraine. Students completed a scavenger hunt
to learn some of words and about some of the artifacts in the museum.

Next, we learned about Ukrainian Dance. We
learned some of the basic steps such as the 3 step and we quickly realized how
difficult these moves are. Once we had some time to practice, we took
some time to look at Ukrainian dance clothing. Lastly we had some time to watch
some talented Ukrainian dances. Here are some pictures of us dancing some Ukrainian
steps.
The last station was learning about Ukrainian settlers in Canada. We spent some time
talking about why some chose to leave the Ukraine, the hardships of moving to
Canada long ago, and even some legacies that the Ukrainian community has left
to Canada.
We have made some connections between what we learned about on our field trip with what we have been learning about in class.
