Today in class we talked about the symbolism of today and why we acknowledge National Child Day. As a class we had a discussion and talked about what rights were and how in Canada we are apart of the UNCRC. The UNCRC sets out the rights of children and these rights can be categorized into three main areas: the right to be healthy, the right to be safe and the right to be yourself.
We read the story I Have the Right to be a Child and talked about where the different rights stated in the story fit into the different categories. The story is about a young child describing what it means to have rights- from the rights to food, water and shelter, to the right to go to school, to be free from violence, to breathe clean air and more. And the greatest importance is that we respect these rights.
We then picked two of the different ideas in the story and discussed how as children and as adults we have the right to be kind and caring and how we can show others that we are kind and caring.
Students brainstormed ideas together and using their hands showed the different ways they can be kind and caring.
Math
In Math we have been working with numbers and learning how to classify if a number is greater than, less than or equal to. Mr.Kim taught the students a new math game where in groups they had to figure out a specific number and there only clues were greater than or less than.
Below are some pictures of them learning the game and playing the game.
