Language Arts
Since students have been back from our winter break we have been looking at goals and ways we can improve some of the work that we have been working on. Students chose their own individual academic goal. They picked from and of the subjects we have been working on. Please ask your child which goal is theirs and why they chose to work on this.
Science
We have started a new unit in Science. We are working on Rocks and Minerals. Students spent some time thinking about their background knowledge on this topic, generating questions of interest, and exploring new nonfiction books. So far we have learned about the rock cycle and the three main types of rocks: Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic.
Some questions you could ask your child include:
What is the rock cycle?
What is the difference between igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks?
Where can you find these different types of rocks?
In-School Field Trips
We are also really excited to announce that next week we will have two fantastic in class presentations. The first is on using programming and coding using Microbits and the second is on Rocks and Minerals presented by the Royal Tyrell Museum. No volunteers are needed and the cost for these has been paid for by the field trip fees.
Conferences
Conferences are this Thursday and Friday. Please make sure you make an appointment to come see your child's teacher. As well please send your white report card enveloped, signed to the school.
