REVUPS is an acronym formed using the six steps below. The teacher selects three or more vocabulary words to teach from a text. Direct instruction occurs after the text has been read aloud and discussed. Students are encouraged to use the words frequently at school and at home.
R- Read and Repeat
E- Explain the word
V- Vocabulary examples
U- Use the word
P-Partners share examples
S- Share examples with the class
We read the story Mathterpieces today and selected the words precise, vision, vivid and varied. For each word we followed the six steps listed above.
Below is some of the additional work we did with the words. On each page there is a sentence frame for students to use.
Have your child explain the words to you and have them use each word in a sentence.
I had a vision of _________.
I have varied ___________.
The ______ created a vivid picture in my mind.
These pictures were used for visuals within the classroom.
Choir Update- Letters have been sent home in students backpacks
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Grades 3 and 4 Choir have
the opportunity to participate in an Off-site Activity to Evanston Summit and
Holy Cross Manor, the Senior’s Centres here in Evanston, on Thursday, December
13. We will be performing a collection of songs, followed by a caroling session
with the residents.
Students will be departing
Ken Taylor School at 9:15 am and walking to Evanston Summit, followed by a
performance at Holy Cross Manor. We will be returning to school around noon,
and provide opportunity for choir students to eat their lunch. Please dress
your child according to the weather conditions of the day, as we will be
walking to and from the Seniors Centre.
We are in need of a few
parent volunteers for this Off-site Activity. All volunteers at any CBE school
must have completed and cleared a police security clearance screen prior to
volunteering.
If you are able to volunteer
and have a completed police clearance, please contact Mrs. Buonomo by Wednesday,
December 12, 2018.
We are very excited for this
special opportunity.
Yours in Music,
Mrs. Maria Buonomo
Mrs. Kim Fraser
Ms. Carissa Willis
